Sophie Jane Miller is an established and well respected Mindfulness Tutor. On this page Sophie explains more about what she brings to the Green Door Clinic in London.
Sophie became engaged with mindfulness after being taught how to handle a stress-related breakdown at the Priory Hospital, Roehampton, following thyroid gland failure. She now uses this simple way of living as daily practice to assist with appreciating and riding the ups and downs of everyday life. The same stresses surround her but using mindfulness she has a new way to "be with" these stresses so they don't affect her mental health.
After being aided as a patient herself, Sophie went on to study for a Master of Studies degree in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) from the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford. She combines teaching mindfulness with her work as an employed barrister.
It isn't necessary to be ill to benefit from living mindfully, and in fact living in the present moment is useful to many, including carers who are constantly faced with stressful circumstances in their lives. Children find mindfulness particularly easy to relate to, and mindful parenting is a well-known resource for communication with children and being open to their experiences in a non-judgmental way.
